Day 2 of textile crafts

Today, we were asked to enlarge a pattern inspired by the environment around us. I think bricks are a seriously cool pattern that can be found all over the world. It’s simple yet effective repetition creates massive structures that are strong enough to exist for centuries. I was really stupid and forgot to bring any materials to make marks with. I did however bring a wooden spoon. I borrowed someone’s lighter to burn it to make charcoal. It worked a little bit, but not very well. I ended up having to borrow someone else’s black paint and using that spoon instead of a paintbrush. Very funny. Then, we were asked to cut one hole in the massive sheet of paper and wear it randomly. This was to create an interesting silhouette. Then, people in our groups took turns drawing the silly exaggerated silhouettes of each other. We had a lot of different poses to draw in a very short amount of time, so I really had to drop my perfectionniste complex and let myself go. It was actually very good for me, to let the details go for once and just go wildly at the paper with my thick pencil. IT created a lot of loose forms and lively figures. And the best part is, it only took me like 10 seconds to get each silhouette drawn. The lines were bold and relentless for once, and I really enjoyed that. The silhouettes were also used to invigorate our imagination. What forms could exist in that mass? How could one wear it and how would it relate to the body? By only taking the outline, we leave a lot of room for the details to come in our imagination.
